Hello! I am Justina and this is my first EVER blog post—so bear with me. Let me tell you about myself and why I created this website.
A few months ago I found a document written by my fourth Great Grand Uncle Robert. He was born in the 1800s in Scotland. When he was 18 years old he became a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His parents and brother joined the Church as well and they decided to sell their home and belongings, get on a boat, and travel to America. Their life was turned upside down. Nothing would ever be the same again. That was the beginning of his adventure.
My adventure began eight years ago when I was called to serve a mission in Germany. I stood on the curb of the Provo MTC and hugged my mother good bye. I didn’t know it at the time, but I was never coming back. Not really. Nothing would ever be the same again for me, either. I met my future husband on my mission and moved back to Germany shortly after returning from my mission. We have been here in Germany ever since, but we are now preparing to move to America in just one short month.
When I read about the life of my Uncle Robert I was struck by the parallels in our stories. He felt something calling to him. Something so strong it couldn’t be ignored. My family and I feel the same way. We are even traveling to the same place that he did. We are moving to historic Nauvoo to live with my aunt.
This blog is about exploring the past and weaving its stories into my family’s life today. The stories of the past can influence our present and our future. At least that’s how it has been for me ever since I read about my Uncle Robert.
Join me on a journey to the past. Find out what happened On this Day in Church History and discover the parallels between then and now.
All the best,
Justina
